Kyocera SGS Precision Tools Europe Ltd visited Wokingham Foodbank this week to present a donation of £1500, raised by their Charity Auction of IT Hardware, which was held just before Christmas. The whole team at Kyocera SGS were over the moon to be able to support this amazing charity with their extremely important and necessary work with the community. Kevin Curtis, IT Manager at Kyocera SGS said ‘This is such an important charity in the local area and we really wanted to be able to raise funds to support a service that directly benefits families and individuals in Wokingham.’

Wokingham Foodbank was established 10 years ago and has been providing food parcels and necessities to local people in Wokingham from their location in the Community Hub, Waterford House or by delivering direct to their homes. They provide a minimum of 3 days nutritionally balanced emergency food to people on a referral basis. This critical support has meant that those in need have been able to feed their families or receive help with heating and lighting. The organisation is part of the nationwide Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

The current cost of living crisis in the UK has meant there has been a huge increase in demand for the support of foodbanks across the country and Wokingham has been no different. Annette Medhurst,  Manager of Wokingham Foodbank explains, ‘There has definitely been a rise in referrals, especially over the Christmas Period, so all the support that we have received from the local community has been invaluable. Some of the people coming to us now have never been in this position before and just don’t know where to turn. We are glad we can be there to help in their time of need.’

Donations of food and household items can be made to the Foodbank in many local supermarkets or to find out how you can help please see their website Wokingham Foodbank | Helping Local People in Crisis
